Tree climbing in WalesThe Treefrog team travelled to Wales over the Bank Holiday to host two events at separate National Trust properties.

The first event took place at the National Trusts Stackpole estate, Pembrokeshire on 1st May as part of an outdoor day where den building, bushcraft etc also took place, coinciding with the inaugural ‘National Trust Pembrokeshire Challenge Ride’ which was organised on behalf of the trust by UK sportive organiser  www.kilotogo.com which attracted many visitors.

A Holm Oak was chosen as the climbing tree for its long lateral limbs, ease to access into the canopy and for its location within the woodland area.  The Treefrog team arrived on-site at 8am to prepare and install all the numerous lines into the tree in readiness for the event opening at 10.30am.

The response was excellent attracting crowds from all ages the youngest being 3yrs old who loved our specially designed swing, the adults that soon realised the effort and time it takes to ascend a tree and therefore often left behind by their children who seemed to master the techniques far easier!  as one Dad said “must be the power-to- weight ratio, whilst eating a burger!”  The event came to a close at 4pm The National Trust event organiser said “it had been a great success with visitors leaving the day with tired muscles but with a smile from ear to ear”.

The Treefrog team were back on the road that same evening to reach their final destination in earnest for the outdoor event hosted by Dinewfr Estates, Carmarthanshire on 2nd May.   Treefrog were up early again to install there ropes in their new home for the day, a Oak that was set amongst the parkland of the Dinewfr Estate  surrounded by ancient castle ruins and rare breed cattle www.nationaltrust.org.uk/main/w-dinefwrpark

The day’s activities ran from 11am-5pm it was all go-go-go, the team barely had enough time to stop for lunch.  The tree hammock that was set in the canopy was a huge crowd pleaser.  We also had climbers of all ages taking up the challenge to beat the bell!  It was great to see the adults climbing as well as the National Trust Ranger Iestyn Thomas and many of the Chinese tourism voluntary students who are working at the Dinewfr Estate.

All in all it was a great weekend and Treefrog would like to say a huge Thank you to both Chris and Iestyn for organising the two memorial events and we are delighted that who took part enjoyed the unique climbing experience.
